O2 Strengthens UK Network for Reliable 4G and 5G

The O2 5G network is expanding rapidly across the UK. It now delivers faster and more reliable connections for businesses and individual users. O2 is using new spectrum from the Vodafone and Three merger, as well as reusing 3G spectrum, to improve both 4G and 5G performance.

Network Expansion Across the UK

O2 5G upgrades focus on busy areas where data use is high. These include city centres, business zones, stations, and large venues. During 2025, O2 is adding over 200 new small cells to boost speed and capacity. As a result, coverage is improving, and connections stay steady even in crowded places.

In addition, these upgrades reduce delays and keep the network running smoothly. Therefore, customers can browse, stream, and work online with fewer interruptions.

Preparing for the 3G Switch-Off

The UK 3G switch-off is happening in stages and will finish by the end of 2025. O2 keeps customers updated as each area moves to newer technology, making sure everyone stays connected to the O2 5G network.

From 1 October 2025, inbound roaming on 2G and 3G has stopped. However, O2 is helping customers who may be affected. Vulnerable users can get free 4G-ready phones so they can stay connected without worry.

Stay Connected with O2 5G

When 3G closes, older phones that don’t support 4G or 5G will lose mobile data. Calls and texts will still work on 2G, but upgrading now gives you a better, faster experience.

To maintain a reliable connection, make sure your device:

  • Supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) for clearer calls
  • Uses a 4G or newer SIM card
  • Has the latest software updates installed

Furthermore, switching to a 5G-ready handset allows you to benefit from faster speeds, reduced latency, and greater network stability.

Support for O2 Customers

If you are unsure whether your phone or SIM is ready for O2 5G, we can help. The team can check your device, suggest upgrade options, and guide you step by step. This way, you can stay connected while enjoying all the benefits of O2 5G.
